http://e3.gamespot.com/story/6211650/xbox-360-to-have-10-year-lifespan-reportever since my first 360 RRoD'd on me, i've been holding off on buying a new one till they get the heating issues fixed. with MS now coming out and saying that the 360's life cycle will be 10 years, i have 2 questions:1) if the life cycle is going to be 10 years, should i just buy an elite instead of the 60 GB version Pro? 10 years worth of patches, add-ons, etc could add up to a lot of hard drive space. i'm not big on downloading TV shows and movies (besides, you can stream netflix so why download?), but i'm wondering how important the hard drive space will be for XBL and XBLA content.2) have they gotten the heating issues fixed with the new chipsets? does anyone out there have the newer hardware? if so, how does it perform?2.5) any guesses on when the next price drop will be (and by how much)?Xbox 360 to have a 10 year life span: Sh ...
A 10 year life cycle is good for those of us with the console, but don't mistake that for being the 360 will be the main MS console for 10 years. It was launched in 2005, but a successor is expected before 2015 - a few years of overlap, and it makes sense to expect a successor around 2012/3.

Larger harddrives are looking more and more popular. I have the 20GB and starting to feel the limitations of it - can only have 1 game installed at once and still have space for normal use. The 60GB is ideal for now, and the 120GB unnecessary, but if plans for purchasing entire games over Live happen, then larger harddrives will be better.

The hardware has been improved, and is still being improved to increase reliability and reduce the cost of manufacture.

No news on any further price cuts, but to be honest it really doesn't need to. Even the Pro model is already cheaper than the Wii and PS3.Xbox 360 to have a 10 year life span: Sh ...
A 10 year life cycle is good for those of us with the console, but don't mistake that for being the 360 will be the main MS console for 10 years.
ah, very true. but that won't be too much of a problem for me. i've learned my lesson with the 360 and will NOT be buying MS's next generation hardware until a few years into its release (in the mean time, i plan to stock up on the 360's entire library of games at bargain bin prices:)).
Do the newer chipsets/hardware improvements reduce noise at all? I had an old 20 gb model, and it was pretty loud.....

Your personal system will still probably last you 4-5 years max if you are lucky.

Go ahead a get an elite, that extra HD space is almost neccesarry if you use live for demos, vids, and downloadable expansions. If only they had the elite when I bought my 360...
the heating issue is already fixed...well not really the new Xbox 360's are less likely to get RROD.
i hope they do this because im not ready for a next gen console
I believe xbox 360 supports resolutions as high as 720p, but not 1080p. How high are telelvision resolutions going to be in the 2013-2015 time frame that will be available to the average consumer?I thought I read an article about a widescreen monitor capable of with 1440p just hitting the market, but at this time it's application is more towards commercial use in the medical field perhaps.

If your tv supports 1080p, it will be an option. If you have a monitor hooked up, the 1920x1080 resolution becomes available for futher proof.
it's fine with my as long as we don't get put behind cause sony and nitendo release another console before we do
ever since my first 360 RRoD'd on me, i've been holding off on buying a new one till they get the heating issues fixed.
Sounds like that was a while ago. It was probably under warranty. You could have gotten it fixed or replaced for free. And
it's fine with my as long as we don't get put behind cause sony and nitendo release another console before we do
Nintendo will likely release a new console sooner than Microsoft or Sony will, but they aren't really in direct competition with them, either.Sony will probably drag out its PS3 hardware longer than anybody.
A ten year life cycle is starting to seem a bit short sighted with this E3. With all of the partnerships and things along those lines that the system developers are getting involved in, I think they could push this generation much further. Fact of the matter is, how much more realistic do we want our games to get?I'm going to start a thread asking what you would want to see in a future generation of systems. Look back in a couple minutes for a link.
