AVI files not being played? Super Questi ...

So I just got the new update from a friends house becuase i am previous owner of XBL and because i left for college i no longer have XBL. Once I downloaded the new update it won't let me play . avi files and I have downloaded the optional media update.Does anyone have a solution? AVI files not being played? Super Questi ...
Are you trying to play videos that worked before, because the 360 won't play all avi files. It will only play video's that are encoded with certain video and audio codec's.  AVI files not being played? Super Questi ...
You must redownload a optional media thingy. You can get it from marketplace.
I think the answer about only certain AVI files working had it. I have a ''friend of a friend'' who has a bunch of downloaded movies and they wont play on the360.
I have downloaded the patch for .avi files and it won't playI think I am going to delete it and re download it
Every single file I have shared to my 360 works. I have avi, xvid, divx, and mpeg. Everything can be played on the 360 now. It's funny how it happened too. I got a PS3 last christmas from my girlfriend, and was thrilled that it was compatible with all my files. A few weeks later, I tried it on the 360, and they worked too. I guess Microsoft figured they couldn't have that...

because they updated the dash with new codecs last year for the 360.

if you download the optional media codecs off the marketplace note like all DLC even free stuff they still use licences. so you may have to be online to use them if you dont have the licence on your xbox. you might have to go on xbox.com and get the DRM tool and move or make sure all the licences for your downloads including that media update are installed if you wish to use it offline. my xbox does the same,. but its very rare its offline, just i noticed while watching survior series while fixing a pc for someone using my xbox ethernet cable during the process. deleting it and re-downloading it may also work. but use the DRM tool if not. or stream it from your pc with media centre or mediaplayer
Just decided to check if my videos work offline as well, and they do.OP, I'd say just download the optional media update again. Maybe delete the old one off your HDD first, too.
So i deleted theoptional media update and once again downloaded it and it gave me the same error message :?
I think that my xbox is retarted
My 360 was doing the same thing so I deleted the update and redownloaded it and now I can play avi files offline. Microsoft must have reupdated the update or something.
