I've been thinking about buying a 360 for a bit...played some Assassin's Creed, COD4, Gears of War, and loved them...I remember the 360 used to have a lot of dependability issues and I was wondering if M$ has ironed those issues out for the most part? Or are the 360's still fairly prone to failure?Dependability?...
Well, im currently on my third xbox. First one crapped out right out of the box. Next day got a new one. That one got the E74 error in September and my new one is going strong. Overall, the RROD is basically solved, it isnt as much of a problem as it used to be. So yeah get one. Theres great exclusives and a bunch of new ones on the way. Dependability?...
The warranty stuff is painless, and problems aren't as common as they used to be so I wouldn't let that hold you back from buying one. Too many great games to pass the 360 by on account of its build quality.
Also, if it does fail the service is AMAZING. You do have to talk to max for about a half hour(believe me if you ever have to call, you'll understand what Im talking about) but after that its only about a month to get it back which isnt bad at all.

Depending on where you live it might not even take a month - from phone call to replacement 360 arriving at my door it took exactly one week, and that's including them shipping an empty box and me mailing it off.
I guess they don't do the box thing any more, though.
The dependability of it really doesn't matter because of the way the warranty works.
the new model consoles are a LOT more dependable but they are still not perfect you can still get RRoD but you have a pretty low chance of getting it now. And ms is good with repairs just make sure you buy a new console and you will have no problems with your warranty since i *think* that second hand consoles are not covered under warranty.
