New updates: Weapons list integrated with main post, removed some unneeded gameplay notes, added details about enemiesEclipse Game FileIntroduction Eclipse is a Third Person Shooter Game that combines elements from the Survival Horror and Action genres. The concept of this game is based on ideas found in the movies Resident Evil Apocalypse and Resident Evil Extinction. You play as Seth Adam Durango, a part-time engineer down on his luck who happens to be visiting his friend, Matt Richards,a medical student, when hell comes to earth (see backstory for the full report). 14 years later, only 3% of the world's population have not become Infected by the Spores and Seth has become a lone wolf warrior who travels around trying to kill off the infected. The game also has a innovative way of customizing weapons, Seth can use one of his powers to ''dissect'' The weapon and whatever you want to combine with it in his mind and then you'll use onscreen commands to combine the two (or 3) items.Sequel Idea: supposing I decide to make Eclipse a series here is a basic outline for game #2: The player takes up arms as a (Canadian) scientist who is part of a group in the UK that is trying to restore the world and along the way slay a few million of the Infected.BackstoryJan 1st, 2000, 12:44 AM. While the rest of the world is celebrating the new millenium, two men are working in a labratory. One is Medical student, Matt Richards , age 19, assistant to Dr. John Thomas, leading expert in biochemical research. The other is you, Seth Adam Durango, age 19, part-time engineer. The two of you were cleaning up when the whole world went to hell. Natural diasters began all around the world, affecting every major continent, while strange spores began floating down from the atmosphere and having a strange effect on anyone who comes into contact with them. A mutation begins to occur in people, first they gain a hunger that nothing can satisfy, less than an hour later their skin goes grey and pale and something snaps in their minds, causing them to go berserk, some die in the process and if the spores drift into their open mouths it turns them into a zombie. Seth and Richard were not affected by the spores, but the earthquake that nearly destroyed the city did. An entire shelf of biochemicals, radioactive fluids and viral antidotes fell on Seth, nearly killing him, a few seconds prior to that he cut his arm on a stray piece of glass, and the chemicals seeped into him altering his DNA and some of the chemicals hardned onto his skin, giving him almost a exoskeleton. Both of them lost consciousness. 4 hours later, Seth wakes up to find his skin has been warped and that Richard is in a comatose-like state . Cautiously, he leaves the labratory and heads out into the streets, the spores are still falling but instead of driving him crazy Seth somehow bonds with the virus contained in the spores. His body becomes purified of the deadly chemicals, Most of the hardened ''shell'' fades away, and he gains a super-human quality, he can look at a machine or weapon or any kind of technology and see each individual part, giving him the ability to customize any weapon in the game. he has also gained advanced reflexes. The first mission is set in this time period, the objective is escape the city and find out whats going on. Eventally you learn that the city is about to errupt in a thermonuclear blast so you jump into the first working vehicle you can find (choice of flatbed truck, car, motorcycle, atv, or dune buggy) and drive away from Death Row as its later called. Flash forward 14 years.....Setting95% of the game takes place in the ruins of the United States, after the outbreak everything that once kept order in the world fell into disarray and died off. Once left to their own, the spores began to mutilate and reformat the land. Small communities were wiped off the map and the few cities that survived were overrun by the Infection. A great amount of the nation became a desert, while Nevada became merely a covering for a tunnel that led to the planet core. some of the mid-east and the entire southeastern corner became a nuclear wasteland. a jungle flourished and died along the southern border, leaving only a ''wooden barrier'' that kept the infected population of everywhere south of the U.S. out. Meanwhile the West Coast has become a hotbed of Volcanic activity. Seth navigates the game world by driving around the highways and wilderness in the vehicle you obtain at the end of the first level. The vehicle has a radio that you use to pick up messages, distress signals, and supersonic waves. Radio Transmissions are how you find out about your next objectives in both the overall story and secondary objective that you have left in each city.(more on that in Gameplay)CharactersSeth Adams- On January 1st 2000, He was involved in a Biochemical accident that gave him highly advanced reflexes, increased intelligence, create spherical electric pulse charges in his hands, advanced vision(infare, x-ray, nightvision, etc.) and the ability to infuse parts of a machine (or machines) to another machine or a weapon to construct a new weapon or tool. He very nearly escaped the city where the creatures known as the Infected were first spotted. 14 years later, he is one of the only survivors that are trying to solve the mystery of where the spores came from.Seth is usually a calm, quiet person, but when fighting the enemy, he is a cold-blooded, unreasonable killer. He always wears a blue jacket that resembles a hoodie sweater. There is a rumor that underneath the jacket he carrys multiple gun belts and ammo boxes. His purpose for fighting the Infected is unkown, but one thing is certain, he won't stop fighting until they're wiped out.Matt Richards- A medical student and Seth's best friend. He went into a coma the night the spores started falling after getting knocked out by hitting his head off a metal counter and having a metal cabinent falling on him, nearly snapping his spine. (this was all due to the earthquake, btw) His current status is unkown.Dr. John Thomas- Matt's boss who is the leading expert on Biochemical technology %26 research. He was out of town on the night of the accident and doesn't find out about Matt until Seth tells him 14 years later. He joined the Survivors so that he could research the Infected and help the Survivors kill them off. He wields a custom shotgun and drives a delivery truck that has been decked out with his own personal laboratory.Brad Winters- The leader of the Survivors, he tries to keep a cool head during combat but he sometimes loses his confidence. He drives a 4-wheel drive SUV at the head of their group. He always carrys his automatic pistol and AK-47. Not much background information is known about him, and he never speaks of the past.Gus Travers- Together with his brothers Tommy, and Jonathon, he tries to rescue as many survivors as he can and keep them safe. The three of them each drive a triple-decker bus and carry a different type of rifle (Gus has an assault rifle, Jonathon has a sniper, and Tommy wields a Burst-Fire Rifle ( an ordinary rifle that fires off 3 bullets with one pull of the trigger) Seth encounters them a few times throughout the game.Fergus Thompson- Brad's second-in-command who never drives one specific vehicle. He used to be a lieutenant in the military and spent a few years in the navy. Because of his past history with weapons he is the group's combat expert and uses whatever weapon he can find along with his own personally tuned m4 and a lever-action shotgun.Jenny Samuels- Although she tries to avoid fighting whenever possible, she is still a big help to the team, keeping track of their supplies, along with navigating their routes and healing the sick and injured. When forced into combat she keeps her knife, automatic machine pistol, and compacted shotgun close. She usually rides with Brad in the SUVRobyn ''Jewel'' Parsons- A teenage girl the survivors rescued from a group of Infected in New York City. After witnessing first-hand the Infected murdering her best friends and parents, she joined the survivors for the dual-purpose of avenging her family, and finding her long-lost siblings, Sammy, and Slyvia. She calls herself Jewel because her family is rich and, growing up, she was a bit snobbish, but gave up that personality after going out with a guy who grew up poor and she really liked him and realized that not everyone grew up like her. Her guns are a shotgun, three pistols and a Katana. she hitches a ride with someone when the convoy is travelling on account of not knowing how to drive.Ian Tylers- A coward at heart but he acts like a big-shot who knows everything. He has two weapons: a pump-action shotgun and a semi-automatic sniper rifle with a flood barrel attached (he can fire multiple bullets with each shot if he opens it) He, and Fergus rotate shifts between driving the supply truck and the comm van.Oliver Carnel- The logical member of the group. He always keeps a cool head except when Jewel's around and contains wisdom far beyond that of the average 18 year old. In combat he uses a magnum pistol and, during desperate situations, a heavily self-modded shotgun.Dustin Havon- A mechanic who joined up with the survivors when they passed through what used to be Detroit. His main job is keeping the convoy vehicles up-and-running but when he is forced into combat he wields a standard pistol and pump-action shotgun. He becomes heavily involved with Operation Eden. The Echo- A ghost that apparently only Seth can see. more details to be addedRaizier- 8 years after the Outbreak Crisis, Seth returns to Death Row, looking for any sign of Matt Richards, hoping that he had survived the fallout. Upon arrival he found legions of slayed Infected and zero forms of life, yet he felt a strange disturbance. He soon discovered why everyone who enters Death Row never returns. The City is held in the grip of a demonic-like man wearing armor seemingly crafted from the skeletons of Infected and humans alike. He wields a red bone-edged saber attached to his arm and a gauntlet that resembles a one-headed hydra, but is rumored to be the skull of a Necromyst. Seth is known to be the only man who can survive a battle with him. Although he shows outright ruthlessness there seems to be something disturbing him.Salvagers- Survivors in each city who gather up supplies and weapons for themselves and anyone who's passing through their depot. The only catch though you have to trade them something of equal or greater ''value'' to obtain anything from them.(More to be added)Enemy TypesInfected (zombies)- the standard enemy. End Result of the spores entering the body. Has pale skin, and use only basic methods of attacking you. If spores fall into the mouths of dead Infected they will come back as zombies, they stay basically the same except that they are slightly slower moving, and if they bite you, you become poisoned. (this applies to Bruisers, Prowlers and Wreks as well)Bruisers- purple skinned Infected with metallic, oversized fistsProwlers- slightly shorter, hunched-over Infected that are very agile and swift, but with 1 or 2 exceptions there is nothing special about their attack patternsWreks- faster moving Infected that use either melee-style weapons (usually just debris, like loose pipes, old tools, etc. or their talons and fangs that more advanced versions have.Berserkers (other names in consideration)- the other standard enemy. basically a combination of the splicers from BioShock and the Plagas from Resident evil 4. Insane SoBs that have ways of making your life hell early on in the gameLakos- These guys only attack you if you get too close. If you kill them at mid-to long range however, they'll explode and start a ''spore storm'' (spores fall out of the sky and bring any dead Infected back as zombie versions.Maulers- Heavily mutated (translates to: has grown giant claws or tentacles. Can spew acidic liquids from mouth and fingertips. or become animal-like) Infected that are now more active hunters. Can only be killed by using specific weapons depending on the mutation.Trypin Guardians- A fully-evolved spore creature whose skin resembles thick armor and besides that they wear makeshift armor on their wrists, chest and lower leg. They have many different ways of attacking you. In addition, there are several Trypins that go by the rank of Sentinel. These act as Generals to the Infected army. One interesting fact is that the Sentinels can speak English in a guttral hiss which each one taking a different pitch. The Sentinels have unique attack styles that are not used by the Guardians or any other InfectedPhychoss- (pronounced Sci-Coss) basically Infected/zombies that are smart. Despite being completely insane from the spores, they actually plan out attack, they can flank you, surround you, or any number of other things. They are capable of using any form of attack that the Berserkers, Infected, or Wreks can. You wouldn't want to meet these guys down a dark alley either...Stingor- Flying spore creatures that resemble giant insects. They have claws, razor-sharp wings, and a stinger that can be shot off or used directly, if hit by the stinger, the poison inside of it will kill you over time. However most of the Stingors are blind and so detect its prey by using sonic frequencies that resonate off of heat.Necromyst- No one knows what these mysterious creatures look like. Some say they look like tall Prowlers with claws that are 5'5 feet long. Others say they look like floating jellyfish. While some who have seen them devour others say that they nothing but shadows that reach out and 'eat' anything it comes into contact with. Looks like this is another mystery to solve.Howler- Savage wolf-like beings that have 3 terrifying features that make them instantly recognizable : Their enlarged (and i mean waaaay blown out of proportion) velociraptor-like claws and the strange markings around their mouth. Their howl is the other feature that makes them a sight to fear: People have been known to suffer from temporary paralysis, insanity, and/or permanent disabilities after hearing this blood-curdling cry. Beware at all costs!Gameplay (Elements)Now, on to the really important stuff. NOTE: I'm writing in ''bullet-point'' style because if I didn't I would probably forget something- The Gameplay is like GTA meets RE4. What I mean by that is: you have a semi-open world to explore and while you do that you will have an objective to reach. On your way to the objective you eliminate any enemy in your way.- The game doesn't take place in just one city. New areas will unlock as you go through, although you can always return to places you've already explored.- You have a limited inventory in which to carry weapons and items at any given time. However you can keep other weapons and items in your vehicle and you can switch your loadout anytime you're standing next to your vehicle.- As I explained above, Salvagers trade you new weapons, but if the salvagers are all killed off in an area (btw you can't kill them yourself) you can break into their Salvage Room(s) (the place where they keep all of their spare weapons, items and ammo. You can also find weapons in the street but 9/10 chances is that it will be extremely low on ammo or otherwise partially useless.- At the outset of the game you are given the choice of your main weapon. (this will also be the weapon that appears in the cutscenes) Each weapon will have its advantages and disadvantages to make sure that they are balanced choices, your play style will probably affect the final choice (There will be 2 different handguns and 2 different magnums)WeaponsStarter Weapons (4):Blaze MagnumShatterz MagnumSnubShot PistolGuardian PistolAssault Rifles (4):AK-47MP-44G36CM4 CarbineSubmachine Guns (6):SkorpionTMPM76ThompsonP90MP5Pistols (7):M9GlockBrowning Hi-PowerSpringfield Armory XDDesert EagleColt RevolverEclipse WarriorShotguns (7):Remington 870Winchester 1894Mossberg 500Ithaca 37Benelli M1014SPAS-12StrikerRifles (5):M21Hunting RifleCrossbowRailer RifleSkullSplitterMelee (5):Baseball batKnifeFire AxShort SwordKatana(Railer Rifle- A hunting rifle-esque gun that can use many unique types of ammunition)(SkullSplitter=R700 power + M2043 design)(Guardian=Two toned S%26W Sigma,SnubShot= USP Elite, Shatterz= DarkSector's Spectre)(Unlockables will include automatic capabilities and infinite ammo for certain weapons)New post-apocalyptic survival horror/sho ...

Sounds good... If you make it, I'll play it... now, are you thinking about making this yourself - like, maybe with XNA, or do you envision this game being made by some big, renowned developer?
big developer for sure, of course even if it does get made it wouldn't be for another couple of years because im still in high school

I would buy it. Sounds fun!
thanks for your responses guys by the way which of the three subtitle ideas i have in the first post do you think fits the theme of the game the most?
Eternal Ruin fits the story good 'cause the earth is like all umm... zombiefied and ruined I guess xD.

Interesting concept. I am not an 'idea critic' but I have some personal questiosn about this game.1) The story seems interesting, but you may want to come up with an update for gameplay, which is going to be importent.2) All of the updates you posted after the main post, should be edited into the main post so they are easy to find and so when this topic gets large folks won't need to shift through 10 pages to find all of the ideas.3) It sounds a bit like a Crysis/Fallout 3/Alone in the Dark mix, which is not bad, but It will be hard to scare gamers when you are basically I super-human killing machine.I will go to my local Gamestop and see if this game avaible for Pre-Order yet :DKeep up the good work, looking forward to future updates.
Honestly sounds cool and cliche. The story is cool but, personally, the idea of zombies in over done maybe deranged mutants or maybe intelligent, psychopathic zombies (seriously that would be cool - a zombie with an intellect). Also, the gas thing is a bit too in-dpeth it would suck to run out of gas if it not apart of furthering the story. Also, using the car often might take away from gameplay if the player is constantly driving.
It sounds pretty good so far.If you got it made I would play it.
millwrought, what you said is true, it would be hard to scare people wif Seth was a killing machine, but his abilities are there to help even out the skill differences between him and the enemies, because some of them will have powers as well, so if Seth was a normal human, against a enemy with the average AI in the game, he would be killed really easily, also the few abilities he gets are evened out between three factions. 1.55% His original ability of assesing how to maximize the potential of his weapons. 2. 25%- self-defense from enemies 3. 20%- ''environment kills'' like throwing a piece of metal or other debris scattered around to set off a motion sensor that will activate a security system that will shoot at enemies. I'm also going to incorperate a few traditional survival horror elements to keep the scare level up.also, i think your idea of integrating all updates into the original post is the best way to go. thanks for the idea.i plan on working on thedetails for this (and a few of my other game ideas) whenever i have free time from now on clayron, I agree that zombies have been used alot in videogames in recent years, but as i'm still making the lists of the types of enemies in the game, i'm fairly confident that traditional zombies will only be found in the first section of the first level. After much thought I have decided that the player will usually have a good stock of gas so your not constantly having to stop and replenish. as well sometimes the vehicle (i don't say car because you get to choose what type of vehicle you use) and the gas elements are worked into the story, not too often though. The thing about using the vehicle in the cities is that enemies have obstacles everywhere that occasionally make it near impossible to navigate the streets, another point is that theres always a risk that your vehicle can be stolen by a desperate survivor, or it may be destroyed by enemies in their attempt to kill you.NOTE: all of these updates will be written into the main post soon, because right now, to say the truth, i have not kept any records of this game in notes or whatever, most of it was came up with as I typed. thanks for your response msdd9! its nice to be appreciated by the gaming community
my random comment of the day: Resident Evil 5 = GOTY 2009
first thing im going to say is I am a fan of the RE movies and alot of my inspiration came from both Apocalypse and Extinction.second thing is I only came up with this idea 2 days ago so theres not alot of details or many gameplay specifics.ok here we go....Title: Eclipse: (subtitle pending) (trying to decide between Dawn of Ruin , Ground Zero, or Eternal Ruin)genre: survival-horror/shooter with action elementsbackstory: Jan 1st, 2000, 12:44 AM. While the rest of the world is celebrating the new millenium, two men are working in a labratory. One is Medical student, Richard Sharpe, age 19, assistant to Dr. John Thomas, leading expert in biochemical research. The other is you, Seth Adam Durango, age 19, part-time engineer. Eventally you learn that the city is about to errupt in a thermonuclear blast so you jump into the first working vehicle you can find and drive away from Death Row as its later called. Flash forward 14 years.....Description of Seth: after the second mission you will know 4 main thinga about him. 1. you do not see his face except in the first mission and the final cutscene, this was intended to add a level of mystery to the character. To help hide the upper half of his face he always wears a zip-up sweater with the hood up over his eyes. 2. in the 14 years since the incident, he has become a ruthless killer when faced with the Infected and a calm voice of reason when speaking to his former comrades who are travelling around looking for a sanctuary. 3.His powers have developed a lot. specifically his intellect, recon, and brute force skills. 4. He always fights solo.gameplay: at the outset of the game you choose your first weapon from 4 different choices. creating new weapons can be done whenever your not fighting and only when you dont have any items equiped. the only wasy to gain new inventory and weapons are from special groups called Salvagers, they are people who hide out in a city and try to find whatever will be of use to them or any survivors passing through. usually though to get something good you need to trade for it. the vehicle you chose to take at the end of the first mission becomes your mode of transportation from level to level and a way for you to travel in the occasional open-world environment. NOTE: the level structure will be posted tomorrow because i've still got to iron out the last few details. The environments of the game are pretty varied. The entire midwestern and southeastern areas of the US have become a desert while the entire area surrounding Las Vegas has become partially unstable(meaning that the ground could wither away with the tinest bit of weight that is added. One last story related fact is that 95% of the world's population have become infected. while most of the dead people come back as zombies.NOTE: this is only my basic outline and more details will be added soon, look for an update tomorrow and all questions and comments are welcome.
I'll buy your game if it comes out on Xbox 360. Brilliant Idea. Don't forget to include Katana, a long and sharp and shiny one.
sounds pretty neat
I would defenatly buy it, it sounds spiffy.
now first of all when I hear about these horror games is how scary is it going to be, Like a F.E.A.R. thing or like a dead rising because if its really scary you need to have the ultimate bad*** that pops out randomly in the worst situations and disappears almost like he is screwing with you, make the game have more meaning like how this all happened what happened to your buddy, as a matter in fact make your mutated buddy the bad*** just for a bit of irony.this is a great sounding game after i just like acting like a critic(I found another guy who's making a game called ''HUSH'' go see is forum you can get some ideas from him)
