Playing Japanese 360 games on an America ...

I searched the web for this answer but found conflicting answers. Some say NO games will work from other regions, while some say only certain games are region free, but then from that list of ''certain games,'' there are more conflicting reports of those certain games working and not working. I've decided to ask my trusty Gamespot comrades for more concrete evidence/advice/personal stories. A google search yields a lot of helpful stuff, like a Wikia site list of region-free games, etc., but then on like the very next site someone says hardcore, ''no game is region-free, you need a mod chip,'' etc. I'm not modding, just looking to know which Japanese games will work BS-free on my American 360.I live in Japan and have my American 360 with me. Just as an example, one game I have found to have the most consensus that works internationally as region free is Ace Combat 6. If I go to the store today and pick up Ace Combat 6, Japanese version, from a Japanese store, is it going to run on my fully updated and always-connected-to-Live American360? Will Live detect it as BS and reject it?The second question is how does the effect Gamerscore? Will it be registered as a different game? I already beat the game back home when I rented it, will running the Japanese version access my save from the American game? Will my achievements be picked up and resumed?Playing Japanese 360 games on an America ...
Japanese 360 games is not compatible with a US 360 version. Most region free ones work but I have heard of issues with some people(might just be their system). Not sure how japanese Live works(dont know any japanese 360 owners) so not sure on how the gamerscore will be affected. Probably have to pick US versions up at speciality stores out in town(know a few in Akihabara) or order via Amazon.Playing Japanese 360 games on an America ...

complete list off games that work on jap, usa or european pal consoles.

also not sure about the game save issue as some jap versions of games are named differently to us/european counterparts.
Well, I've got a Asian Xbox 360, which is similar to the Japanese console (NTSC-J), and I say that as long as the game are region free they wil work on your system. Hell, I've got North American, European and Australian games in my collection, and all of them work just fine.
As somebody pointed, use the Play-Asia list.

Most games should be region free, mainly Western games, but even then you got other issues like waiting for them to launch in Japan (if ever) and that they might be in Japanese.

Most Japan-only titles however are region-locked. Best bet would be to buy a Japanese Arcade and depending on the game, buying the right game from the right region.
Thanks for that link.Next issue is, can anyone detail what happens to Gamertags and Gamerscore when using other region games?Scenario 1) I buy a Japanese region game that is region-free (such as Ace Combat 6) and play it on my American 360. Will it resume my save files from the American version? Will it be added as another game on my list, back to 0/1000 achievements, or will it resume my 400/1000 or so already gained achievements?Scenarion 2) I buy the Japanese Arcade 360 in order to not have to worry about region-freeness and whatnot. But I want to use my American-made Live account and Gamertag. Is this possible? Will the Japanese system allow me to call up my American account and use it on the Japanese Live system? Thanks.

Not possible since DVD's have regional protection.
Not possible since DVD's have regional protection.
See, this is what I'm talking about in my original post. Someone posts a link with a list of ''confirmed'' region-free games, then someone replies with a clean cut, ''it just isn't possible'' answer. So what gives?

Some people like to talk about things they know nothing about. Sites like Play Asia have lists of games that are region coded or are region free. If you buy a region free game it will work fine. About the saves and gamerscore depending on the game some games have separate achievement lists so it would restart to 0/1000 but some share so it depends on the game.
There are some games that although they are the same game, have different names. I would susspect that these are the ones you'd have trouble with regarding achievements. As for game saves, it's difficult to say. I had a PAL console from the UK but I moved to Canada and took it with me. Unfortunately it RROD on me so I had it exchanged for a NTSC console. A few of my games wer not region free but luckily once I'd exchanged them for NTSC copies the saves I had from my PAL games worked fine, as did the achievements.

You will have no problem recovering you gamertag to a different region although when you want to renew your live subscription if using a prepaid card make sure it's not a region locked one. You can (believe it or not) get region free pre paid cards. you wont havea problem though if using the original credit card you used to sign up with if that card is still active.

With regards the region free games, ignore anyone who says there isn't any and just use the link i provided in an earlier post.

Good luck
